IBC Stand 3.151, IBC, Amsterdam – 7th September 2007: Pro-Bel is to supply a significant broadcast automation system to Technicolor Network Services, part of the Services division of Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), for use at a new playout facility in Singapore. The facility is based at SingTel’s highly resilient and secure Bukit Timah Earth Station.
Central to the venture is Pro-Bel’s Morpheus playout and automation technology. Technicolor Network Services has been using Morpheus at its UK facility with “great success”, according to Alec Stichbury, VP of Technology, Technicolor Network Services. “We believe that the technology’s tried and tested track record will help Technicolor to establish a trusted and leading position for service delivery in the territory,” he says.
He continues, “The reason for launching in Singapore is that it continues Technicolor’s growth aspirations for service delivery across key geographic hubs. We see Singapore as a vital point of presence for servicing the Asia Pacific region. We have forged a close partnership with SingTel and together believe that there is a wealth of opportunity to exploit each others’ core competencies.”
The facility is initially supporting traditional linear broadcast delivery, leveraged from a fully file-based infrastructure. The aim is to offer a range of services from end-to-end digital media solutions that support content aggregation and delivery to multi-point platforms, to narrower offerings for clients wanting to target specific market entry points and do not require an all-encompassing solution.
“We are launching with a number of channels from a 10-channel network operations centre and will scale this operation upwards over the next 18 months,” says Stichbury.
Pro-Bel’s CEO Graham Pitman adds: “It is very pleasing to be working with Technicolor Network Services on this project. The company’s use of Pro-Bel technology in London has proven to be very successful, and we greatly welcome the opportunity to work together with them on this significant project that will ultimately take us both into some interesting new areas as Technicolor Network Services business evolves.”
Pro-Bel serves Asia from its Hong Kong office.
