Booth SU4347, NAB, Las Vegas – 24th April 2006: Pro-Bel, the premier manufacturer and supplier of routing switchers, signal processing, master control, automation, control and monitoring technologies, announced today the launch of Morpheus Media Browse, a significant addition to the already hugely successful next generation automation and media management platform.

Morpheus Media Browse has been carefully designed to provide additional efficiency and flexibility when it comes to the creation of low-res browse copies of digitized content in a file-based environment and joins a roster of browse functions within the platform.

New workflows result in a greater proportion of material being delivered as files without the need for traditional tape-based ingest. Morpheus Media Browse allows low-res copies to be created quickly and easily. Pro-Bel’s Browse Acquisition application integrates a new product XCode, which has been developed by highly regarded UK-based specialists IPV in close conjunction with Pro-Bel. XCode is a high speed transcoder that streams the specified files from the material source, performs a transcode to Windows Media 9 format at around twice real time and then stores the low-res version on IPV’s advanced streaming browse server. On completion of the transcode process Pro-Bel’s Acquisition application updates the Morpheus Media Management database to indicate that a low-res version is available for review.

“Morpheus Media Browse gives multiple users the ability to view and edit content in low-res formats such as Windows Media 9 from many desktop locations. The browse review functionality within the Morpheus Automation Edit Workstation gives the operator the ability to review and trim, if necessary, in and out points for scheduled content in low-res rather than being tied to reviewing content in high-res and thereby tying up valuable system resources such as video server decoder ports. Workflows are changing and when content is delivered as a file the traditional method of efficient parallel encoding disappears,” explains Chief Engineer Dave Collins.

Norway’s most popular commercial broadcaster, TV 2, has already specified Morpheus Media Browse as part of its ongoing project to migrate all of its channels to Morpheus Automation.

Graham Pitman, Pro-Bel’s CEO, adds, “Morpheus is already an outstandingly successful product, yet the pace at which innovative features are being added is impressive. Our success in doing this is partly due to excellent customers who give quality feedback and partly based on our years of experience in broadcast automation. TV 2’s decision to deploy Morpheus Media Browse is very pleasing.”
