Melville, NY, US – August 21, 2007: Highly regarded post house PostWorks, New York (http://www.pwny.com) has turned to Pro-Bel to help it cope with its expanding business requirements. The company – which also owns technology and services rental business Orbit Digital - is a long-term Pro-Bel customer and is upgrading the heart of its New York facility.
PostWorks has recently completed work on a wide variety of projects including Michael Moore’s “SiCKO”, Jon Sayles’ “Honeydripper” and Jonathan Demme’s “Man from Plains”. It prides itself on its full service post production capabilities with the ability to handle every aspect – digital or film – for both short-form and long-form television, film and multimedia projects.
The company has purchased two Sirius Gold routers – one equipped 320 x 320 HD/SD and the other 320 x 320 AES/64 x 64 analog audio. It has also purchased two analog video Freeways, one 128 x 128 and the second 48 x 128. It has also significantly upgraded the capabilities of its Aurora router control system to provide new facility-wide flexibility.
Corey Stewart, Director of Systems Engineering, highlights two key factors that have driven this expansion. “Over the last three/four years our business has really grown. Alongside this is the demand for greater system capacity due to new technology that we are experiencing. New HDCAM SR VTRs have more i/o, 12 channels of audio, 4:4:4 RGB dual link i/o as well as format conversion outputs. Our episodic TV clients are using SR for the audio channels and our feature film clients are utilizing SR’s 4:4:4 RGB interface for digital intermediate work. This all adds up to the need for greater routing capacity.”
The overall aim is also to streamline the facilities’ workflow. The power and flexibility of Pro-Bel’s Aurora control system is key to this. “The routers serve as the backbone for telecine, editorial, duplication, digital intermediate and digital media (digital dailies) workflows. We will utilize the new control system to make signal routing easier for operators in our suites. Time is of the essence when in session so the control panels will be programmed to aid operators in setting up and “normalizing” the room. Essentially, the Pro-Bel router control panel will be the main control system for each room. Based on how we program the control system, it will aid the operators in switching over each room into the specific signal and workflow needed. It will also be routing reference signals so no more external manual reference switches are necessary. Future use will include deck control via RS422 to aid duplication,” explains Stewart.
Stewart also highlights Pro-Bel’s attentiveness to PostWorks’ concerns and the fact that they have received great assistance on both the sales and engineering sides as reasons for purchasing from the company.
“PostWorks is a valued customer and we are once again glad to be of assistance. We understand the complexities and capacity issues that modern post houses face and have worked hard to satisfy them. This is further proof that we are achieving our aim,” concludes Neil Maycock, President of Pro-Bel Americas.
