Melville, NY, US – November 19, 2007: Pro-Bel has been selected to provide the core technology for a new multi-purpose digital truck at PBS station WJCT, in Jacksonville, Florida.
WJCT is currently taking full advantage of the multicasting capabilities digital television offers. In addition to the analog broadcast WJCT also broadcasts five fully-functional standard definition channels and one pass-through high definition channel. The station is also taking advantage of multicasting on radio with five broadcast radio channels ranging from talk radio through classical music to a reading service for the sight-impaired.
“We needed to increase our ability to supply both live and recorded local content for our channels in order to enhance our service to the community. We have purchased and equipped the four-camera all-digital truck which uses a microwave system to transport live signals back to the station,” explains Duane Smith, Director of Technology, WJCT. Pro-Bel’s regional partner the Command Corporation oversaw the deal.
The truck uses a Pro-Bel Freeway router populated 32 x 32 SDI and 32 x 32 analog audio, with a variety of control panels. There is also a wealth of Pro-Bel Vistek signal processing technology, including analog and digital distribution amplifiers and A/D and D/A converters.
“The truck is 100 per cent Pro-Bel for distribution and routing,” explains Smith. “We chose these technologies following recommendations from peers and after an impressive onsite demonstration.”
Neil Maycock, President, Pro-Bel Americas, comments: “Pro-Bel’s technology is designed to satisfy customers across the spectrum, from performance, price and ease-of-use perspectives. We are of course happy that this continues to be recognized by broadcasters both large and small.”
